Naming courses

Why is naming courses important?

The course names have to be clear and unique to help students discover and distinguish:

  • Courses of (almost) the same name from different universities / projects
  • Different (semester / year) implementation of the same course
  • To prevent (accidentally or not) joining the wrong course (which may cause clutter for the course teacher).

Name the courses in the following way:

  • Begin with the university / project identifier e.g. UEF or KiVAKO
  • Then use a colon :
  • Follow with the course name and the number of credits and / or the course level identifier (e.g. A1)
  • End it with the year, academic year or semester and any course number or other identifier (e.g. 2019-1)

Abbreviation of the course

  • Begin with the university / project identifier, e.g. UEF or KiVAKO
  • The use a colon :
  • Follow with the course abbreviation and a colon
  • End with the year and the distinctive number or other identifier for the course

Examples
